The official One Piece Twitter account previously disclosed that Eiichiro Oda has been diagnosed with astigmatism, a condition leading to blurred vision or distorted sight. For the past year, Oda has been advocating for surgery, and his editor has recently given approval.
Supporters from all around the world have been expressing their well wishes to Eiichiro Oda. Among those conveying warm regards is Yusuke Murata, the highly active manga illustrator of One Punch Man, known for his substantial Twitter presence.
Murata shared an empathetic anecdote, recounting a similar experience where sketch lines appeared persistent despite repeatedly using erasers, eventually realizing that he was perceiving duplicate lines due to his vision.
Referring to Oda’s humorous suggestion of acquiring the ability to emit laser beams post-surgery, Murata expressed anticipation for Oda to emit a beam as potent as Cyclops’s optic blast, a well-known character from the X-Men franchise.
Yusuke Murata’s Tweet translation is as follows:
I can really relate to the nuisance of astigmatism as I’ve had the experience of thinking why the sketch lines wouldn’t disappear even after multiple erasures, only to realize that the pen lines were looking doubled. Take care, Mr. Oda! Also, I’m looking forward to a beam as thick as Cyclops’s optic blast!
Interestingly, Yusuke Murata has also been contemplating a significant break from his drawing work. During a recent Twitter Space, he revealed that he has been considering a break for a long time and may opt for a vacation in the near future.
A prolific artist, Murata is concurrently engaged in two known anime projects. The first is an original short anime, and the second is a one-shot Eyeshield 21 anime adaptation.
Additionally, the esteemed manga artist has resumed One Punch Man manga panel drawing live streams on YouTube after a few years of break.
Given Yusuke Murata’s demanding schedule, it wouldn’t be surprising if the One Punch Man manga also encounters a hiatus in the foreseeable future.
